Welcome! Herzlich willkommen! Bienvenue! Bem-vindo! Vitjjte! Hartelijk welkom! Benvenuti! Witamy! Bienvenidos!
Hi there,
My name is Joe McMahon, I am a singer/songwriter hailing from Gourock, which is a small town (near Glasgow) in Scotland, and I've set up this website to promote my long awaited (by some!) debut album -
A DAY TO REMEMBER.
To quote one wag - "We thought Joe's first album was going to take longer to record than Sergeant Pepper's… then we realised it was going to take longer than the Beatles entire career!"
But now, at long last, it hath arrived.
Here you can listen to some of the tracks from it, view some of my lyrics and look at pics and biogs of me and my fellow conspirators (and also, hopefully, follow the links to their websites - you would think there'd be a lot more combat & competitiveness among unsigned acts but, to quote Jools Holland, "there's room for all under the big umbrella of musicianly brotherly love!").
You can also, of course (should you like what you hear), find out how to get your hot sweaty fevered hands on a copy; which is after all - not to go all corporate and globalized, but - the point of this wee endeavour. Catch me now, before I go all commercial and sell out! Hahaha!
We will be updating the site in the near future with more sound clips, pics, info. & gig listings etc., and of course that much anticipated… difficult second album! - I'm expecting to be catapulted to superstardom long before the 3rd gets released via the web, lol ;-)
That's my opening spiel over. Hope you like the music and enjoy the site.
Happy surfing and haste ye back!

(Yeah) Baby sings the blues at night
Songs of loneliness and hold me tight
Now she’s nothing left to lose
There’s no other you can choose
When baby sings the blues
Cos baby tells it like it is
Tears provided by a stolen kiss
It’s not hard to find the clues
Or easy to confuse
Why baby sings the blues
Just twelve bars and an aching heart
A hush descends when she’s about to start
Standing there with just her muse
Wearing Cinderella shoes
Yeah baby sings the blues
With just twelve bars and an aching heart
She can blow that whole damn room apart
Now she’s nothing left to lose
But those Cinderella shoes
Yeah baby sings the blues
END
No she’s nothing left to lose
But those Cinderella shoes
So baby sings… the blues

Again & Again Lyrics & Music: Joe McMahon
"This particular song was influenced by the conflict in Rawanda some years ago, but it could be about any war/famine zone at any time in recent memory. I fear that it will always remain contemporary. Any time I play it live; everyone assumes it has just been written." - Joe McMahon
Ask me why – Please don’t go demanding
Hands held high – I got no understanding
Why we live in days like these
When the fighting will ever cease
Seems like one war ends and another begins
And we’re asking
How can this be happening again?
How can this be happening again?
Didn’t we learn anything from the last time
Didn’t we learn anything at all?
Then why does it keep happening again - & again?
When Dylan screamed – The times they are a’changin’
Maybe it seemed – Like things were re-arranging
The curse was drawn, the die was cast
The first one really would be last
Now the future is in the past; the order stayed the same
We’re still asking
How can this be happening again?
How can this be happening again?
Didn’t they learn anything from the last time
Didn’t they learn anything at all?
Then why does it keep happening again - & again?
A mother’s face – Stares out from my T.V. screen
Some far off place – Where the scorched earth used to be green
I look at hungry haunted eyes
Under angry war torn skies
Another starving baby cries; as if she’s trying to say
Man all I’m asking - is
How can this be happening again?
How can this be happening again?
Didn’t you learn anything from the last time
Didn’t you learn anything at all?
Then why does it keep happening again - & again?
Oh – Again - & Again
Oh – Again - & Again

Thinking About Her Tonight Lyrics & Music: Joe McMahon
I wonder does she ever think about me
The way I think about her
Thinking there’s no place she’s rather be
If she could be anywhere
Than lying beside me and waking to find me
There in the cool morning light
I wonder does she ever think about me
Like I’m thinking about her tonight
Or did my memory fade with her last heaving sigh
And was it all just laid to rest in that goodbye
In the blinking (in the blinking) of an eye
Or is she thinking (or is she thinking), wondering why…
Yeah I wonder does she ever think about me
The way I think about her
Thinking there’s no place she’s rather be
If she could be anywhere
Than lying beside me and waking to find me
There in the cool morning light
I wonder does she ever think about me
Like I’m thinking about her tonight
And does she miss the kiss that only I could give
And sometimes wander past where we used to live
Does she sometimes (does she sometimes) see my face
In the one that (in the one that) takes it’s place…
Hell I wonder does she ever think about me
Like I’m thinking about her tonight…
I wonder does she ever think about me
The way I think about her
Thinking there’s no place she’s rather be
If she could be anywhere
Than lying beside me and waking to find me
There in the cool morning light
I wonder does she ever think about me
Like I’m thinking about her tonight
I wonder does she ever think about me
Like I’m thinking about her
Thinking about her
Thinking about her tonight…

Joe McMahon
Joe returned to his native Scotland (after a few months working in Germany) in July 2006. He is currently in Aberdeen during the week and returning to Gourock at the weekends. You will most likely catch him playing at The Office (7 Crown Street, Aberdeen), where he sometimes hosts the Tuesday night Open Mic session. He will also be playing at a few other Aberdeen venues in the near future."A Day To Remember" is his debut album, although he has contributed various tracks to a number of compilation CD's over the years.
He was co-founder of The Inverclyde Songwriters (with John McCloskey) and was also involved with The Glasgow Songwriters for a long spell, many moons passed. You can also hear (and download) some more songs from "A Day To Remember" from his page on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/joemcmahonfromscotland
Dave Currie
Dave Currie is the owner / operator of Primrosehill Recording Studio in Inverkip, Scotland. Dave also plays bass, among other things, and sings with popular Greenock folk band The Wherrie's. For more information visit http://www.wherries.co.uk/studio
Wendy Blair
Wendy Blair is one of the The Clyde Coasters (a "nostalgia" band comprised of two male musos and two female vocalists). She has been singing for as long as she can remember (one of her earliest memories is of singing "Moon River" to her grandmother). Ever since then she has continued to expand her repertoire and her audience. Her musical influences include the jazz greats of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday and Julie London and, whilst at home in the sophisticated company of Cole Porter, George Gershwin (and other giants of that era), she is more than capable of turning her talents to a wide range of other styles, from folk, to blues and pop.
John McCloskey
John McCloskey has played bass in many bands in and around Inverclyde over the years and also done his fair share of busking (where he earned his nickname - "The Rainman" - due to the inclemant conditions in our part of the world!) John co-founded The Inverclyde Songwriters with Joe, whom he first met around the time of their involvement with The Glasgow Songwriters. He has produced numerous CD's of his own work (playing most of the instruments himself), and was responsible for puting the compilation album "Storytown" and the double CD "The Highland Clearances" together. Find out more at http://www.wildthistles.com
Davy Nicol
Davy Nicol sings and plays guitar with popular, Steve Earle influenced, Greenock country/rock band The Lazerenkos. As well as writing and recording with the band, he has also previously released an accoustic CD of his own material called "Across The River". To find out where you can catch The Lazerenkos live (always a treat), or details of where to book them or get their CD's, head to http://www.geocities.com/lazarenkos. You can also check out http://www.myspace.com/thelazarenkos for further info. on the band. There is also a rumour going around that Davy was somehow involved in the untimely death of John Denver (but it was never proved, or so he says).
Barrie Kelly
Barrie Kelly is on keyboards with The Ten Gallon Bratz, when they are playing a full band set-up, and guitar & vocals when they are performing a more stripped down accoustic set or, sometimes, bouzouki (and other similarily exotic instruments) when they are in the recording studio! He also writes a lot of their songs! (Oh, and he composes film music in his spare time!)"The Bratz" play a country tinged brand of rock, and are another great act to catch live.
To find out where they're playing next, buy CD's or to book them, check out their site at http://www.tengallonbratz.com
